Venturing along the A169 you will eventually reach Pickering. A lovely market town. Slightly hilly but also on the flat. There is a stream that runs through the village where ducks swim and greet visitors attempting to pass them to get to the supermarket. There are plenty of shops to look around, including antiques shops with unusual finds.
There is a tea room right by the railway station with outside seating In October Pickering holds a 40's week-end. A massive, popular event where people travel from all over the country to join in. 40's wear is adorned, the shops are dressed 40's style, soldiers and tanks hit the high street and spies and their accomplices plot on the steam trains. It's a fabulous day and very moving. War veterans march the streets saluting along with dressed for the part soldiers. If you fancy wearing seemed stockings and pencil skirts, trilbys, gasmasks soaking up the feel of days gone by this is definately for you.
