Have a great day out boating or canoeing on the River Esk in Ruswarp, a beautiful sheltered village just on the outskirts of Whitby. Abundance of wildlife including salmon leaping, herons, ducks. Cafe directly across the road. Dogs will have to sit this one out. But it doesn't stop other adventurous members of the family having go.
There is also riverside cafe (Perrys) 2 minutes drive further along the road. Plenty of outside benches where you can sit with your dog. It is also a garden centre.
North Yokshire Moors and Goathland 10 minute drive from here. Great for walking and exploring with your dog.
How To Get There
From Whitby take A171. Drive for about 5 minutes until you reach an island. Take the First Left (marked Sleights).
Go down the hill. You will see a left turn off as you reach the bottom of the hill. Take the turn off. Drive for 1 minute. You will see Perry's garden centre on the right. (This is the 2nd cafe & garden centre mentioned) If you drive straight along rather then turn left you will reach Ruswarp Pleasure Boats.
