All Aboard. Step aboard and venture into days gone by with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Chugg and puff your way through the stunning North Yorkshire countryside as one of the Railway Children of today.
From the minute you arrive at one of the beautiful boarding locations, from Whitby Coast and along the moors, you will be transported back to another world.
Inside the cosy carriages, you will experience preserved authentic charm. No long isles with rows and rows of open, formal type seating. Speedy commuter computer travel is replaced by smoke and steamed engines, whistles, and a journey through lush, green landscapes viewing sheep and nature. You may wander how sheep stand up for so long without their legs aching. Why are they never ill when all they do is eat?
A uniformed conductor will be on board and pass up and down windowed passageways. The wood panelled carriages, closed off and more friendly, will invite conversation of a pleasant nature, even with strangers. Adults in 60's child mode, may even indulge in the purchase of four for a penny black jack sweets and a bag of brightly coloured pink shrimps and flying saucers. Simply because, turning back the clock on a steam railway journey, stirs these long forgotten cravings. Dogs allowed.
Dogs Days Out
It's a great day out. Even if you started your day by the sea or walking on the moors, this could be part of another unplanned adventure. How often can you spare the time and not feel guilty about just sitting doing nothing? Just watching the world go by and glimpsing your own reflection? Whitby
A picturesque little maritime gem. Famous for it's stunning coastline, Captain Cook & the Endeavour, the Abbey, Dracula, delicious food including the best fish and chips, (Whitby claims) award winning restaurants and much more.
Grosmont
A station in the style of 1952 British Rail where Engines are restored. This quaint village is the junction with the mailn railway network. Tea rooms serving home made cakes and produce are a real delight.
Goathland
Heartbeat's Aidensfield station and the station used as the bewitching Hogsmeade in the first Harry Potter film. The village is charming. Wide open spaces of spectacular moorland, village shops, tearooms, and gentle roaming sheep. There is a 1922 style tea room at the station.
Newton Dale Halt
You can make a special request for the Guard to stop at this tiny, picturesque halt. If you Love walking, the halt provides easy access to the National Park and you may spot some magnificent wildlife.
Levisham
A 1912 style station. Can only be accessed by one solitary hill road, and is cocooned by the magnificent Yorkshire Moors. It's home to an artist, whose studio opens whenever trains run. Levisham, is a bit like going into another world. Sturdy Highland cattle, horns not to be messed with, roam here. It's very pretty.
Pickering
The station here is 1930's in style an has a charming village atmosphere. The station has a traditional tea room with freshly baked scones and pies. This station is used in the very popular war week-ends Pickering holds. Spies mingle on trains with 1940's attired folk who could be just on an innocent day out or are they the war's spies or moles?
Esk Valley
From time to time, usually at gala week-ends additional services to Battersby, along the Esk Valley may run.

- 29th April - 8th May - 175th Anniversary of the Whitby-Pickering LIne.
- June 11,12th Swinging Sixties Celebrate the Swinging 60's in Heartbeat Country. Displays of locomotives and live music.
- July 9th-11th Vintage Vehicle week-end. Historic week-end of vintage and classic vehicles on display along the railway.
- September 16th-18th Heritage Diesel Gala - great for diesel enthusiasts and those who want to learn about trains.
- September 30th - Oct 2nd Autumn Steam Gala spectacular week-end of steam locomotion.

October 14th -16th Railway At War.Turn the clocks back to the 1940's to the most popular event of the year. With ENSA entertainers, street parades, vehicle displays and re-enactments along the railways
